AI as a Weapon Against You

Consider that it is entirely in the interest of the companies which provide access to centralised AI models if their users become less capable as a result of using their products. It would be actively against their interest if their userbase could use their models as a learning aid, and eventually outgrow the need for AI assistance. It is already known that several of these companies have optimised their models to promote and extend user engagement and usage time, much like social media vendors. I've not seen it explicitly commented on however that user skill degredation may also be something they're intentionally optimising for - I suspect they will at least be having that conversation. This I think is a good argument at the very least for using local/open models, if not minimising AI usage for learning as much as you can.
